Customization Manager
Teacher’s Tool for creating custom assessments
The Scope
Teachers using our learning platform faced difficulties in creating and integrating customized assessments. They had to rely on third-party platforms, leading to inefficiencies, broken links, and a fragmented user experience. The goal was to design an in-platform assessment maker that allows teachers to create, customize, and seamlessly integrate assessments into their curriculum.
The Challenge
The primary challenge was to develop a user-friendly assessment creation tool within the existing platform. This tool needed to meet diverse educational needs, support various question types, and fit within the current curriculum structure without requiring teachers to navigate away from the platform. We also needed to ensure that the tool was intuitive enough for teachers with varying levels of technical proficiency.

Research
User Interviews: Conducted one-on-one interviews with teachers to understand their current assessment creation process, pain points, and desired features. Insights were gathered on how teachers were managing assessments and what challenges they faced with the existing tools.
Focus Groups: Organized focus group sessions with small groups of teachers to discuss potential solutions and gather feedback on preliminary ideas. These sessions provided an opportunity for collaborative brainstorming and validation of user needs.
Ideate
Based on the insights from the research phase, the ideation process began. The focus was on creating a solution that would:
Integrate seamlessly with the existing learning platform.
Provide an intuitive interface for teachers to create and customize assessments.
Allow easy embedding of assessments into the curriculum.
Ensure that students could easily access the assessments without needing external links.
Brainstorming sessions, wireframing, and sketching were used to explore various design options. The goal was to create a tool that was both powerful and easy to use, minimizing the learning curve for teachers.
Solution
The proposed solution was an integrated assessment maker tool within the learning platform. Key features included:
Customization Manager: Teachers could manage all their custom assessments in one place, putting them in the units and lessons that each one belongs to and putting them into the curriculum seamlessly, as well as manage student assignments.
Templates for Question Types: Teachers could easily create assessments, selecting from a variety of question types (multiple choice, short answer, essay, etc.).
Customization Options: Teachers could tailor assessments to fit their curriculum, including randomizing questions, and incorporating multimedia elements.
Curriculum Integration: Assessments could be seamlessly embedded into the curriculum, allowing for smooth navigation and access for students.
Real-Time Feedback: The tool provided instant feedback to teachers on student performance, helping them adjust the content as needed.

Validation Testing
To ensure the solution was effective, validation testing was conducted:
Usability Testing: Teachers were invited to test the assessment maker tool in a controlled environment. Feedback was gathered on the ease of use, functionality, and overall user experience.
Pilot Program: The tool was rolled out to a small group of schools for real-world testing. This phase allowed for the collection of data on how the tool performed in a live classroom setting and any issues that arose during implementation.
Iterative Improvements: Based on the feedback from usability testing and the pilot program, iterative improvements were made to the tool to enhance its functionality and user experience.
Outcome
The implementation of the custom assessment maker tool was a success. The tool has been widely adopted by teachers, with thousands of assessments created using the platform. Key outcomes include:
Increased Teacher Satisfaction: Teachers reported a significant reduction in time spent creating and managing assessments, allowing them to focus more on teaching and less on administrative tasks.
Streamlined Student Experience: Students no longer had to navigate external links, resulting in a smoother learning experience.
Widespread Adoption: The tool became an integral part of the learning platform, with thousands of custom assessments created and embedded into curricula across various schools.
Overall, the project not only met but exceeded expectations, providing a solution that improved both the teaching and learning experience.
