Bulk Logging Tool
Valuable tool for bulk attendance logging
The Scope
The objective of this project was to design and implement a tool that would simplify the process of logging student attendance for synchronized live lessons. Teachers needed a solution that would reduce the time spent on administrative tasks, allowing them to focus more on personalized learning and student intervention.
The Challenge
Teachers were spending an excessive amount of time logging attendance for each student who participated in synchronized live lessons. The process involved accessing individual student logs to mark attendance, record the meeting details, and note the topics covered. This repetitive and time-consuming task detracted from the teachers' ability to provide personalized support to students, especially those who were struggling.

Research
To better understand the needs and pain points of teachers, the research plan included:
Tickets from Teachers: Teachers submitted multiple tickets, describing their pain points in their current attendance logging process. Teachers described their experiences, challenges, and the features they wished could be improved.
1-on-1 User Interviews: Conducted detailed interviews with a select group of teachers who regularly conducted live lessons. These interviews aimed to uncover the specific steps involved in logging attendance, the time spent on each task, and any workarounds they had developed to make the process more efficient.
Validation Testing: During the ideation phase, I showed the wireframes with various options and iterated based on teacher feedback and survey answers.
Ideate
With a clear understanding of the teachers' needs, the ideation phase began. The goal was to create a tool that would:
Automatically track and display the time each student attended the live lesson, at once.
Include simple, intuitive buttons for teachers to quickly mark if a student attended or missed the lesson and whether attendance was required.
Provide dropdown fields for teachers to easily select the subject area and add any relevant notes about the lesson or individual students.
Reduce the amount of manual data entry required, thereby saving time and minimizing errors.
Wireframes and prototypes were created to visualize these ideas, and feedback was gathered from teachers to refine the designs.
Solution
The solution developed was a streamlined attendance logging tool featuring:
Automated Time Tracking: A table automatically populated with each student’s attendance time, reducing the need for manual logging.
Quick Action Buttons: Simple buttons to indicate attendance status (attended, missed, attendance required) allowed teachers to quickly record information without navigating through multiple screens.
Subject and Notes Fields: Easy-to-use fields for selecting the subject area and adding notes, ensuring that teachers could document important details without hassle.
User-Friendly Interface: The tool was designed to be intuitive, with a clean layout that minimized the steps required to log attendance.

Outcome
The implementation of the attendance logging tool resulted in substantial improvements:
Significant Time Savings: Teachers reported over a 50% reduction in the time spent logging attendance, freeing up more time for instructional tasks.
Increased Teacher Satisfaction: The tool was well-received by teachers, who appreciated the efficiency and ease of use. They could now focus more on personalizing learning experiences and intervening to support struggling students.
Enhanced Focus on Student Needs: With less time spent on administrative tasks, teachers were able to dedicate more attention to understanding student challenges and tailoring their teaching approaches accordingly.
Overall, the project successfully addressed the pain points of teachers, providing a solution that not only improved their workflow but also positively impacted the learning experience for students.
